Over 100 years ago, a darkness loomed over Victorian England in which children were used and abused. Influenced by her mentor, Charles Dickens, Hesba Stretton exposed this darkness through her stories. She won widespread fame for Jessica’s First Prayer and was considered one of the most popular writers of the 19th century. This beloved story sold at least a million and a half copies, outselling Alice in Wonderland by “nearly ten times as many.” Today we bring Hesba Stretton’s story to life as a world-class audio drama, Jessica’s Journey. A web of characters becomes entangled with the knowledge of past sins; a minister, a miser, and an unfit mother experience miraculous redemption through their connection with little Jessica and her answer to prayer.

Jessica's Journey
From Peter Stec of JORDAN STATION, Ontario on 4/6/2021 .
Like all Lamplighter productions, you risk crying in public if you listen anywhere other than in the privacy of your car or bedroom. I've often had to "scratch" my eye (while really wiping away the tears) in public in order to not attract too much attention. While Jessica's demeanor is unlikely to be realistic in real life (she's a gracious, wonderful little girl raised in a very rough, ungracious environment), and while some suspension of disbelief is called for, the redeeming factors of the story are wonderful and emotive. My entire family of 5 listens silently in the car and no one wants to get out at our destination unless the story is done. Jessica has inspired my 8-year old daughter to look past 8-year old childish issues and to develop into a loving and gracious young lady. My sincere thanks to an excellent cast at Lamplighter.
Highly Recommended

Excellent production! Provides insight into the plight of homeless children. It gives hope for the hopeless on their journey in a hard cruel world. Wonderful lessons - Loved when unlovable, the joy of a forgiveness - child like faith and the impact one can have on so many. Truly a wonderful story.

My husband and our two adopted daughters (ages 19 and 16) loved this story! We could relate in so many ways and it ends victoriously.
Excellent!!

My 10 year old daughter and I listened to this during our driving time. At first she was a little disappointed because the story does have some sad moments. But by the end of the story we were both commenting on how well done it was, and how much we enjoyed it. Masterfully produced. Very engaging.
Thoroughly Enjoyable

A sweet story that thoroughly engrossed us from the beginning. Driving through tears and goosebumps as homeless Jessica touches many lives with the living gospel of our utter destitution and need for rescue.
